Keynote Speakers



Heidi Cramm, PhD, is an assistant professor in the School of Rehabilitation Therapy at Queen's University and the Interim Co-Scientific Director of the Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health Research.

  Sheila Frankfurt, PhD, LP, is an investigator at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs VISN 17 Center of Excellence for Research on Returning War Veterans in Waco, TX, USA. Her research focuses on post-deployment readjustment and reintegration, including moral injury and PTSD.

  Trudy Mooren, PhD, is associate professor at Clinical Psychology, Utrecht University. She is affiliated as a clinical psychologist with Foundation Centrum ’45, Arq Psychotrauma Expert Group, the Netherlands.

  Nicola Fear. PhD, is Professor of Epidemiology and Director of the King’s Centre for Military Research in London, UK.

  Prof. Robert J. Ursano, MD, is Professor of Psychiatry and Neuroscience and Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, Maryland, USA.

  Prof. Prof Alexander C. McFarlane, MC, AO is Professor of Psychiatry and the Head of the University of Adelaide Centre for Traumatic Stress Studies.  He is an international expert in the field of the impact of disasters and PTSD. His research is supported by the Department of Veterans Affairs, and NHMRC program and partnership grants.

  Col Rakesh Jetly, OMM, CD, MD, FRCPC is the senior psychiatrist and mental health clinical advisor on the Canadian Armed Forces Surgeon General, and "The Canadian Forces Brigadier Jonathan C. Meakins, CBE, RCAMC Chair in Military Mental Health". Col Jetly is also an associate professor of psychiatry at Dalhousie University (Halifax); Queen's University (Kingston), and the University of Ottawa.

  Ank Bijleveld is the Dutch minister of Defence, she will officially open the conference on wednesday, the first day of the conference in Amsterdam.

  Jozias van Aartsen is acting mayor of the City of Amsterdam and a former Dutch minister.

  Uri Rosenthal, prof dr, is chairman of The Council for Civil Military Care and Research and  a former Dutch minister.

  Angelien Eijsink, MSc, is a former Member of the House of Representatives of the Netherlands.

  Martin Elands is head of the  Centre for Research and Expertise (KOC) of the Netherlands Veterans Institute (Vi).


Barry Hofstede is a Dutch veteran, artist and publicist.


Tom van ’t Hek a former top hockey player and well-known sports reporter.
